NOVEMBER 8 - 20, 2023
Day 1 - JFK - CASABLANCA 7:50 PM departure from New York aboard Air Maroc, dinner and entertainment enroute
Day 2 - CASABLANCA-DAKAR 8:40 AM arrival Casablanca for your connecting flight @ 1:10p arriving Dakar @ 3:40p. Meet and greet and transfer to IBIS or similar. Evening at leisure
Day 3 - DAKAR/GOREE ISLAND After breakfast take a ferryboat to Goree Island. As a slave holding fort, Goree played a significant role in the history of the Americas. You wander the streets, visit the museum, and inspect the Slave House, auction block and dungeons as our guide relates the history of the Island. Lunch at a seaside restaurant. Afterwards return to hotel. Visit Art galleries (B/L)
Day 4 - DAKAR After breakfast, city tour. You will visit the Place de Independence, the President’s Palace, the Grande Mosque, with stops at the colorful Kermel market, the Soumbedioune arts and crafts market and the Ifan Museum, Freedom Statue etc. Lunch on your own and return to hotel (B)
Day 5 - DAKAR Free day (B)
Day 6 - DAKAR-ACCRA 5:15 AM Flight on Kenya Airways to Accra. Meet and Greet transfer to hotel. Morning city tour of Accra visiting Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park, National Museum and W.E.B. DuBois Centre for Pan Africanism. Drive past the Independence Arch and Black Star Square-Accra’s ceremonial grounds, view in the distance Christiansburg Castle, office of the President of Ghana. Your last stop will be the Arts and Crafts market which has a wide variety of artifacts Overnight: Alisa Hotel or Accra City Hotel (B/L)
Day 7 - ACCRA-ELMINA Breakfast 7 AM. Depart for Elmina. Upon arrival stopover at Asin Monso, the last bathing place for Slaves before departure. It is also the current resting place for the enslaved that were dug up in the Wall Street area in the mid ninety’s. Visit Kakum National Park for an hour’s walking tour through the Rainforest. After your visit continue to Coconut Grove for overnight. Lunch at Mable’s Table (B/L)
Day 8 - CAPE COAST ELMINA This will be one of your most memorable days. Highlights include: Visits to the famous Elmina and Cape Coast Castles and Fort St. Jago. Arrive and visit the Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum. The guide will conduct you to the slave quarters and Negotiation Hall. Continue to Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 for a comprehensive guided tour. See the Slave dungeons and the condemned cell where slaves who attempted to escape were held. Lunch will the at a seaside restaurant, Lunch at Hans Botel Overnight (B/L)
Day 9 - ELMINA-LOME Early morning departure for Lome, Border formalities. Drop Off your bags in the hotel and continue with a Half day tour of Lomé, Highlights include Musee National, Monument de Indepedance, Galerie Coin du Terrior, Cathedral. Experience the ancient and modern culture of Lome. Lunch on African cuisine. Return to the hotel. Overnight: Lomé.
Day 10 - LOME -COTONOU- OUIDAH After breakfast leave for Cotonou enroute stopover Abomey- Calvi and Ouida, irrefutably the voodoo capital of Benin Voodoo is an Ancestral and Nature tradition. Highlights include the Slave walk from point of sale to the Atlantic shores to board the Slave ships and the python enclosure. After lunch continue to Cotonou, overnight Hotel du Lac (B/L)
Day 11 - GANVIE-COTONOU After breakfast, cruise to Ganvie, the biggest stilt village in Africa. It was settled by fugitive Fon in the 1700’s who were fleeing from slave raiders. Cruise from your hotel accompanied by a guide through the waterways. Return to Hotel and board your bus to Cotonou - city tour with highlights, Museum, and craft market. Lunch on your own return to Hotel. (B)
Day 12 - PORTO NOVO Half day tour of Porto-Novo, the official capital of the West African nation of Benin and was the capital of French Dahomey. It was a tributary of the old Yoruba kingdom of Oyo. On arrival, stop at the obelisk of the Zangbeto, the traditional night guardians and visit Honme, the former palace of King Toffa, the 19th monarch of the Hogbonou kingdom. Visit the Mosque built by Portuguese returnee slaves. You will spend the day immersed in Yoruba culture. Return to Cotonou evening farewell dinner (B/D)
Day 13 - COTONOU-CASABALNCA-NEW YORK 6:20A: Departure flight to Casablanca, arriving @ 10:50am; connecting flit at 3:50p arriving New York @ 5:55p.
